Itokine 50mg Tablet works by increasing the movement of food in the digestive tract (especially the stomach and intestines), thus promoting the emptying of the stomach. It also works on the region in the brain that controls vomiting.
Itopride Hydrochloride is indicated for gastrointestinal symptoms associated with chronic gastritis, including an enlarged abdomen, upper abdominal pain, anorexia, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting.
Itopride Hydrochloride acts as a potent dopamine-2 antagonist and acetylcholine esterase inhibitor. By inhibiting dopamine D2 receptors and acetylcholinesterase, it increases acetylcholine concentrations. This action enhances GI peristalsis, increases lower esophageal sphincter pressure, stimulates gastric motility, accelerates gastric emptying, and improves gastro-duodenal coordination.
The usual adult oral dose is 50 mg of Itopride Hydrochloride taken three times daily before meals. Dosage may be adjusted based on age and symptoms. Itopride Hydrochloride is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Elderly patients should be closely monitored for adverse reactions.
Itopride Hydrochloride should be administered with care when co-administered with certain drugs, as they may reduce its activity. Mechanism & risk factor: Anticholinergic drugs may decrease the gastrointestinal motility activating action of Itopride.
Itopride Hydrochloride is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or any excipients. It should not be used in patients with conditions where increased gastrointestinal motility could be harmful, such as gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation.
Safety during pregnancy has not been verified, and it should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Data on excretion in breast milk is limited, so itopride is not recommended for breastfeeding women.
Itopride should be used cautiously as it enhances the action of acetylcholine. Continuous use without improvement in symptoms should be avoided. Patients should be instructed to remove the drug from the package before ingestion to prevent accidental ingestion of packaging material.
Store Itopride Hydrochloride below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from light, and out of the reach of children.
